History

The history of the Touraine Chenonceaux appellation is closely linked to the famous Château de Chenonceau, a Renaissance jewel spanning the Cher River and symbolizing the elegance and allure of French heritage. The vineyards have benefited from sustained attention since the time of Diane de Poitiers, the château's principal patron. Although the Touraine vineyards are among the oldest, dating back to Antiquity with the Romanization of the Gallic countryside, the Touraine Chenonceaux AOC was established as a specific geographical designation in 2011, guaranteeing its unique and recognized terroir. This recognition enhances the value of wines produced on approximately 110 hectares spread across 27 communes in the departments of Indre-et-Loire and Loir-et-Cher, in the heart of the Loire Valley wine region.

Grape varieties

The white wines of Touraine Chenonceaux are made exclusively from the grape variety Sauvignon blanc, This gives the wines an intense and fresh aromatic expression, often marked by floral notes (hawthorn, acacia), as well as aromas of ripe fruit, citrus, and exotic fruits. Powerful yet elegant, these white wines have a rich mouthfeel and a beautiful length.

Red wines are primarily made from a blend of Cabernet Franc and of Coast (aka Malbec). They are distinguished by their deep garnet color, with melted tannins and a rich aromatic personality where notes of stewed black fruits, licorice and menthol intertwine, bringing freshness and elegance.
